English course

The English Program helps students acquire the competence, confidence, and skills necessary to enhance their studies.

You will be tested upon arrival using the Oxford Online Placement Test (OOPT) in order to place you in the appropriate class level.
The program can be taken prior to commencing any program at any Swiss Education Group school. The length of the program for each participant depends on his or her personal English level and motivation.

English has notably become the most effective language in the job market. The hospitality industry works in an international context and at Swiss Education Group schools we want to equip any interested students with all the necessary tools to progress in their academic program of choice and properly succeed in the industry. 

The program offers students a minimum of 20 hours of English courses per week and covers the following subjects:

• Introduction to College Studies
• Structured Writing and Grammar
• Learning Strategies and Study Techniques
• Vocabulary Development and Intermediate Reading
• Reading and Text Analysis
• Communication Skills
• Critical Thinking and Analysis
• General Hospitality Knowledge

The English Foundation Program runs throughout the year in monthly blocks. Students are required to complete the program successfully in order to begin their program. Joining a three-month session will ensure the 200 study hours necessary to achieve the required language level of your chosen program.

If you have the required language level for entry on your chosen program, but feel like studying in English might be challenging, why not consider joining our pre-sessional English Foundation Program? This provides you with a useful introduction to living and learning in Switzerland and eases you into the study habits and learning approach which will help you succeed in your studies. It offers training in critical thinking, presentation, essay and report writing and other university level skills, while also introducing you to the cultural and social elements of learning on campus. 

The English Foundation Program is currently held at the Hotel Institute Montreux campus. Students from all Swiss Education Group schools may participate in the program.
